AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Bahrain’s opposition Al-Wefaq movement condemned Thursday’s meeting between the Bahraini Foreign Minister Khaled al-Ahmad al-Khalifa and his Israeli counterpart Israel Katz.
In a statement on Friday, Al-Wefaq described the public encounter as “shameful”, adding that the regime in Manama “no longer has any legitimacy”.
In the first meeting of its kind, Al-Khalifa met with Katz at a US State Department reception in Washington.
A number of Persian Gulf monarchies and Israel have openly announced plans to normalize relations in recent years.
However, “normalization” of relations with Israel remains a dirty word for millions of Arabs who continue to oppose the Israeli occupation of Arab lands.
For many Bahrainis, the boycott of Israel is not only an issue of legality and politics but of ethical considerations as well.
According to Al-Wefaq, Manama’s increasingly cozy relationship with Tel Aviv “does not honor” the Bahraini people and their views.
