AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The families of seven detained Bahraini youths sounded the alarm over the wellbeing of their loved ones on Monday after having had no contact with them for nearly two weeks.
Bahraini rights campaigner Ebtisam al-Saegh reported via her social media accounts that the seven made very brief phone calls on June 26 informing their families that they were being held at Manama’s Criminal Investigation Directorate (CID).
There was no explanation given for their detention or if they were accused of breaking any laws.
The CID is a branch of Manama’s security apparatus notorious for questionable interrogation techniques that often amount to torture.
Thousands of Bahrainis have been taken into custody by the CID in recent years without proper cause or an arrest warrant, and many allege being subjected to ill-treatment.
