AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The Bahrain Society Against Normalization With the Zionist Enemy is threatening a “popular boycott” after revealing that Israeli-made products are being sold on the shelves of Bahraini supermarkets.
In a Twitter post on Monday, the group shared a picture of a bag of potatoes labeled: “Origin Israel”.
Most Arab states do not have official diplomatic or commercial exchanges with Israel due to its occupation of Palestinian, Syrian and Lebanese territories.
For millions of Arabs, the boycott of Israeli goods is not only an issue of legality and politics but of ethical considerations as well.
The latest news comes shortly after Manama hosted a US-led conference that was touted as a new way out of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The meeting was used to unveil the Trump administration’s plan for resolving the conflict, which centers on a USD 50 billion start-up fund for the region’s Palestinians.
But the plan, which many view as a threat to Palestinian statehood, was less than enthusiastically received in the region and the Palestinians boycotted both the Bahrain conference and the US proposal.
