AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Presidents of the Islamic Republic of Iran and France spoke by telephone and discussed bilateral, regional and international issues.
In the phone call that was made on Saturday evening, Dr Hassan Rouhani said that despite US sanctions, Iran has attempted to save the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) during the past 14 months with a strategic patience.
He also described US sanctions against the Iranian nation an act of terrorism and a fully-fledged economic war, saying, “Continuation of this economic war can lead to other threats in the region and the world”.
Dr Rouhani went on to describe Iran’s recent actions completely under the terms of the nuclear deal aimed at saving it, and called on the European Union to fulfil its responsibilities under international treaties and UN resolutions to step up efforts for saving the JCPOA.
In response to his French counterpart’s proposal, the President said that the lift of all sanctions can serve as a beginning for a development between Iran and 5+1.
During the same phone call, President Emmanuel Macron of France said that the European Union has shown strong opposition to US’ withdrawal from the JCPOA, adding, “The EU wants the JCPOA to survive, and we are doing our utmost in this regard”.
Stating that situation needs to be under control and new measures need to be taken to save the deal, he said, “Collapse of the JCPOA will mean admitting to a collective failure and a deplorable incident, therefore, we have to choose a second path to save the JCPOA and contribute to the de-escalation of tensions”.
“France is ready to double its efforts in this regard, especially to serve Iran’s demands, which is a cease-fire in the economic war,” said Macron.
