AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Manama summoned the Iraqi ambassador on Friday after protesters stormed the Bahraini embassy in Baghdad over this week’s US-led conference in Bahrain.
The Iraqi diplomat was given a letter of protest by Bahrain’s foreign ministry, which had also condemned the “attack” in a statement on its website.
Some 200 demonstrators took down the Bahraini flag from the embassy in the Iraqi capital in what one protester described as a “message to all those who participated in the Bahrain conference.”
“We strongly reject normalizing relations with the Zionist occupiers and will never abandon our support of Palestinians,” he added.
Those who took part in the demonstrations also burned an Israeli flag while hoisting the flags of Iraq and Palestine.
The Bahrain conference was used as a venue for the launch of the Trump administration’s plan for resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which received a frosty reception in much of the Middle East.
The Palestinians rejected the plan they say failed to address their aspirations for statehood and boycotted the Manama meeting, which also served to advance efforts to normalize ties between Bahrain and Israel.
