AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Bahraini detainee Hussein Radhi Al-Tawil has reportedly developed mental illnesses after being subjected to long-term denial of urgent medical care by prison authorities.
Bahraini activists reported on Monday that Al-Tawil, who was detained in 2014 and sentenced to 17 years behind bars, now suffers from amnesia and at least one other psychological disorder.
According to activists, the 23-year-old was initially diagnosed with epilepsy following “unimaginable torture” at the hands of Manama’s security services.
Rights groups have accused Bahraini prison authorities of failing to provide adequate health care to detainees suffering from grave illnesses – a practice that involves “willful medical negligence.”
