Al Khalifa forces detain another Shiite religious figure

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The office of Bahrain’s public prosecutor reportedly ordered the detention of another Shiite religious figure on Sunday.

Mulla Abbas Al-Jaziri has been remanded in custody for a week pending further investigation over one of his religious sermons.

Al-Jaziri’s arrest comes just 48 hours after the US State Department released its Report on International Religious Freedom, which concluded that Manama “continued to question, detain, and arrest Shiite clerics and community members” throughout last year.

Meanwhile, international rights groups have repeatedly accused the regime of marginalizing Bahrain’s Shiite majority through a campaign that undermines the community’s religious, social, political and cultural rights.
