More Bahraini Jaw detainees join hunger strike

Bahraini rights campaigner Ebtisam al-Saegh reported on Thursday that a growing number of inmates in Bahrain’s Jaw Prison are joining a hunger strike over the ill-treatment of detainees.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Bahraini rights campaigner Ebtisam al-Saegh reported on Thursday that a growing number of inmates in Bahrain’s Jaw Prison are joining a hunger strike over the ill-treatment of detainees.

The hunger strike started earlier in the week after a number of prisoners had their communication privileges revoked.

According to Al-Saegh, detainees are also being confined to overcrowded cells for up to 24 hours at a time and are denied access to toilets.

The activist is claiming that some of the prisoners on hunger strike have fainted as their blood sugar levels drop.

Allegations of abuse in Bahraini prisons are widespread and include denying detainees access to health care, confiscating their belongings and even depriving them of drinking water.
