AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has shot down a US RQ-4 spy drone close to the Iranian province of Hormozgan in Persian Gulf Shores.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) public relations' office said in a statement on Thursday early morning that the air defense of IRGC Aerospace Force has shot down a US Northrop Grumman RQ-4 Global Hawk drone after it intervened in the Iranian territories.
The statement added that the drone was shot down in a territory in front of Mubarak mountain, Hormozgan province, Iran Press reported citing Sepahnews.
On Jun 19, the chief commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), Major General Hossein Salami said that the country managed to change the balance of power in its favor by harnessing the technology required for manufacturing ballistic missiles.
According to Fars News Agency, one US military official has acknowledged the drone being hit near Iran's border but claimed that it had not entered the Iranian territories.
The 200 million dollars-worth US Navy’s MQ-4C drone was shot down by an Iranian surface-to-air missile over the Strait of Hormuz, a source told Fox News.
The RQ-4 Global Hawk is an unmanned aircraft system (UAS) that can fly at high altitudes for more than 30 hours, gathering near-real-time, high-resolution imagery of large areas of land in all types of weather.
On Jun 01, the Iranian Army's deputy commander, emphasized that the presence of non-regional military forces in the Persian Gulf is totally unnecessary, does not help in the establishment of security, and in fact, causes insecurity in the region.
