AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): An unspecified number of detainees in Bahrain’s Jaw Prison have reportedly gone on hunger strike over ill-treatment.
Bahraini rights campaigner Ebtisam al-Saegh reported on Monday that the hunger strike comes in response to prisoners having their communication privileges revoked.
According to the activist, the detainees have had no communication with their families for an entire week.
Jaw inmates are routinely denied contact with the outside world. In most cases the measures are temporary and used as a form of punishment.
Allegations of abuse in Bahraini prisons are widespread and include denying detainees access to health care, confiscating their belongings and even depriving them of drinking water.
