Palestinians in Latin America slam US-sponsored economic workshop in Manama

Representatives of the Palestinian diaspora in Latin America and the Caribbean slammed the US-brokered economic workshop scheduled to be held in the Bahraini capital, Manama, later in June as intended to liquidate the Palestinian question.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Representatives of the Palestinian diaspora in Latin America and the Caribbean slammed the US-brokered economic workshop scheduled to be held in the Bahraini capital, Manama, later in June as intended to liquidate the Palestinian question.

The Confederation of Palestinian Communities in Latin America and the Caribbean (COPLAC) expressed in a statement its absolute rejection and condemnation to the 'Peace to Prosperity’ economic workshop, scheduled on June 25-26 in Bahrain’s capital, Manama.

COPLAC urged Arab states not to participate in the workshop, which it described as “a US-Israeli maneuvering designed to wipe Palestine from the map and liquidate the rights of the Palestinian people.”

It also slammed the workshop as a new attempt to eliminate the Palestinian cause which constitutes a part of the US-touted Mideast plan, whose main purpose is to empty the Palestinian demands of their political essence, reduce them to crumbs of economic assistance and destroy the Palestinian people’s right to their own independent state.

COPLAC went on to assert that US-touted plan which envisions improving the Palestinians’ quality of life, even if under military occupation, as the long sought solution for the Palestinian question in fact falls in line with the “economic peace” paradigm pushed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The confederation expressed its full and unstinting support to the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people, as well as to the Palestinian leadership’s position not to take part in the Manama conference and not to discuss the US plan aimed to subject Palestinians to an aggravated form of Israeli apartheid and strip refugees of their right to return to their homeland.

Founded in 1948, COPLAC is linked to the PLO. It represents all Palestinians who live in Latin America and the Caribbean and their descendants who total around 700,000 people.

Chile has the largest Palestinian community, with nearly 500,000 living and working there, making it not only the largest Palestinian diaspora community in Latin America, but also outside the Middle Eastern region.
