Sheikh Isa Qassim: Bahrain economic conference is unjust liquidation of Palestinian cause

Bahrain’s highest religious authority, Sheikh Isa Qassim, commented Monday for the first time on the planned US-led economic conference in Bahrain, describing the initiative as “an unjust liquidation of the Palestinian cause.”

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Bahrain’s highest religious authority, Sheikh Isa Qassim, commented Monday for the first time on the planned US-led economic conference in Bahrain, describing the initiative as “an unjust liquidation of the Palestinian cause.”

The Manama conference is expected to unveil the economic aspects of the Trump administration’s so-called “deal of the century”, which the White House says is meant to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

But according to Sheikh Qassim, the deal is a “crime” that shames its backers.

“This deal will only find absolute failure. It will only achieve shame and disgrace for those who are chasing after it,” the senior Shiite cleric said in his Monday statement.

He warned that the Manama gathering slated for June 25-26 is “a serious conspiracy … [and] a transaction of humiliation and disgrace.”

Sheikh Qassim also pointed out that the supposed negotiations are unfolding without the participation of one key player.

“Where is the other party to this deal?” he asked. “Where are the Palestinians?”

“They reject the deal, and they disown those who are working to implement it [and] facilitate the way for it,” the statement adds.

The Trump administration’s plan, which is viewed as bias in favor of Israel, has been widely rejected by Palestinians.

On Monday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said that “Trump’s ‘deal of the century’ will go to hell, as will the economic workshop in Bahrain.”

“Whoever is interested in proposing a solution to the Palestinian issue should begin with a diplomatic solution,” he added.
