AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Ali Mushaima resumed his protest in an effort to “save” his father – jailed Bahraini opposition leader Hassan Mushaima – who continues to be deprived of medical treatment.
Ali is staging a sit-in outside the UK’s Royal Windsor Horse Show where Britain’s Queen Elisabeth is hosting Bahraini monarch Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa this week.
Last year, Ali observed a 46-day hunger strike outside the Bahraini embassy in London over his father’s ill-treatment in detention.
In a Twitter post on Friday, he explained that “this time, I protest against the person who’s responsible for my father’s imprisonment.”
He elaborated further in an op-ed for the Guardian newspaper, asserting that “Hamad rules with an iron fist.”
“While the king socialises with dignitaries, my ageing father languishes in a cell in Bahrain, denied access to medical treatment for a range of serious illnesses,” he writes.
“I will do anything to save my father’s life. I want to show everybody that the British government is turning a blind eye to his slow murder,” Ali added.
Hassan Mushaima is serving a life sentence for his role in Bahrain’s 2011 pro-democracy protests.
He is a cancer survivor and suffers from multiple health conditions including diabetes.
