AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): A detainee in Bahrain’s Jaw Prison died suddenly on Thursday shortly after complaining of ill-treatment.
According to Bahraini activist, Ebtisam al-Saegh, 45-year-old Hussein Ali Nema told his family in a telephone conversation that he was being denied access to medical care.
Hours later, the family received another phone call from the prison informing them that Nema passed away.
Al-Saegh said in a post on social media that the family is “in shock” because Nema had not been diagnosed with any illnesses.
Nema was serving a three-year prison term.
Prisoners at Jaw have routinely complained about being denied access to health care and about being subjected to other abuses.
In February of this year, a 30-year-old Moroccan national was reportedly tortured to death by guards at the facility.
