AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The team of foreign medical experts that assessed the medical needs of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Ibraheem Zakzaky and his wife on the orders of a Kaduna High Court have concluded that the ailing Sheikh would require further proper medical attention at well-equipped centres abroad.
On the conclusion of their preliminary assessment of the health situation of the Sheikh and his wife, they opined that both may need to be flown abroad for proper medical attention because both still suffer significant multiple health problems.
The foreign medical experts were in the country at the instance of the Kaduna High Court who granted the prayers of the leading defence counsel, Femi Falana SAN, to allow independent medical experts to review the duo.
The request to allow medical experts to review the Sheikh are predicated on three objectives as enumerated by the lawyers: firstly to determine whether the Sheikh and his wife have been receiving optimal care sufficient to their ill health since 2015 when they have been in custody as repeatedly stated by the DSS, secondly to determine their current health situation, and to see whether they are sufficiently well or not to proceed with their trial and thirdly to give professional advice as to what next line of action ought to be taken as far as their state of health is concerned.
It was based on this that a team of medical experts led by the Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC) came into the country last weekend to carry out the assessment.
The team, comprising of Dr. Dhalla Kazim Akber Habib a Tanzanian Ophthalmologist, Dr Nurul Abbas Noorani, Hemani Shezanali Riyaz and Panjawani Taufiq Rafiq , all Indian experts were led by the London-based Shadjareh Massoud of the Islamic Human Rights Commission to conduct the series of assessment and preliminary medical examination.
The court is expected to be fed back with the report when it resumes sitting sometime to come.
