AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Small-scale protests erupted across Bahrain on Friday night against what many regard as efforts aimed at ‘normalizing’ ties between Manama and Israel.
Protesters gathered in the villages of Sanabis, Shakhura, Abu Saiba and Al Musalla.
They carried Palestinian flags and displayed signs condemning the participation of an Israeli delegation in an upcoming entrepreneurship conference being hosted by Manama.
One of the signs equated the presence of Israeli nationals in Bahrain to the ‘desecration of the land’.
The planned Global Entrepreneurship Congress is expected to host more than 40 Israeli ‘delegates’.
The news has prompted calls for a boycott of the conference by those opposed to the establishment of diplomatic ties between Arab states and Tel Aviv.
The idea of rapprochement with Israel is believed to be widely unpopular on the Arab street due to the continuing and often bloody Israeli occupation of Arab lands.
