Bahraini female detainee marks two years behind bars

Bahraini female detainee Hajer Mansoor Hassan, whose conviction has been termed “unlawful” by the UN, marked two years behind bars on Tuesday.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Bahraini female detainee Hajer Mansoor Hassan, whose conviction has been termed “unlawful” by the UN, marked two years behind bars on Tuesday.

“Two years without my children, without my husband and without my family,” Hassan wrote in a letter that was shared on social media by Bahraini rights campaigner Ebtisam Al-Saegh.

Hassan had her three-year prison sentence upheld last week, which she received for allegedly planting a fake explosive device.

Rights groups maintain that the conviction was an act of retaliation against her son-in-law and an outspoken critic of Manama’s human rights record, Sayed Ahmed AlWadaei.

AlWadaei accuses authorities at the Isa Town Prison where Hassan is being held of denying her access to health care and depriving her of her right to phone calls.
