Bahrain’s top religious scholars welcome Sheikh Isa Qassim’s ‘road map’ for country’s future

Bahrain’s top religious scholars have welcomed last week’s statement by Sheikh Isa Qassim, which they dubbed as a “road map” for the country and its future.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Bahrain’s top religious scholars have welcomed last week’s statement by Sheikh Isa Qassim, which they dubbed as a “road map” for the country and its future.

Sheikh Qassim, Bahrain’s highest religious authority, penned his first statement in nearly three years last Friday, in which he applauded his nation’s unwavering pursuit of “rights, justice and freedom.”

The ailing cleric left Bahrain last June to receive desperately needed medical treatment after spending over a year living under house arrest.

According to the scholars, his words have been received “with great passion and eagerness.”

The scholars said in a statement of their own on Monday that they see the “map, strategy, foundations … and signal” that Sheikh Qassim’s words contain.

They also called on the people of Bahrain to be fully prepared amid the looming anniversary of the country’s popular uprising on February 14.

The occasion will mark eight long years since tens of thousands took to the streets to demand political and social reforms in the Persian Gulf kingdom.
