AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Bahrain’s Court of Cassation has rejected an appeal against the dissolution of the country’s National Democratic Action Society (Waad).
Monday’s court ruling upheld a May 2017 verdict that dissolved the kingdom’s only secular opposition party over allegations that it was “advocating and inciting terrorism”.
The charges apparently stem from a reference by Waad to three torture victims that were executed by Manama in January 2017, which the party described as “martyrs”.
Other Bahraini opposition groups, including Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society and the Islamic Action Association (Amal) have also been dissolved over similar charges.
Meanwhile, the many thousands of members of these organizations have been banned from holding political office.
