AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs has published the Quran’s translations in 16 local languages.
According to the Iranian Cultural Center in Jakarta, translations into a few more languages are also under way.
Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, the religious affairs minister, said rendering the Quran in each of the languages could take some two years.
He also underlined that translation of the Quran can never be exactly the same as the original Arabic.
Islam is the most adhered to religion in Indonesia, with 87.2% of Indonesian population identifying themselves as Muslim in 2010 estimate.
Indonesia has the largest Muslim population in the world, with approximately 225 million Muslims.
The Southeast Asian country is home to hundreds of ethnic groups speaking many different languages.
