AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Exiled Bahraini human rights defender Sayed Ahmed Alwadaei reported on Wednesday that his jailed mother-in-law and two other female detainees at Bahrain’s Isa Town Women’s Detention Centre had their phone calls suspended this week.
Alwadaei believes that the latest act of reprisals against Hajar Mansoor, Najah Yusuf and Medina Ali is linked to a recent UN statement that declared the imprisonment of his family members as being unlawful.
“This punitive measure follows the pattern of reprisals that occur whenever there is international scrutiny on their cases or Bahrain,” Alwadaei wrote in a Twitter post.
“Last September, the 3 women were assaulted following a debate in UK parliament & UN report. They have not seen their families since,” he added.
The women have observed hunger strikes in the past over their ill-treatment in detention.
Alwadaei warned “that the women may declare a hunger strike to stop their harassment and ask to be treated with some dignity.”
All three were sentenced to prison following trials marred by allegations of torture and other due process violations.
