AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Bahrain’s opposition Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society is planning a Twitter campaign calling for the release of its Secretary-General Sheikh Ali Salman, four years after his arrest.
Under the hashtag #FreeSheikhAli, the campaign is due to get underway on Thursday at 8PM Bahrain time.
On November 4, Sheikh Salman was sentenced to life in prison after Manama’s court of appeals overturned his previous acquittal on charges of ‘spying for Qatar’.
International rights groups dismissed the ruling as being politically motivated.
Sheikh Salman was jailed in December 2014 and given a 4-year prison term for “inciting disobedience and hatred”.
