AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Death row inmates in Bahrain’s Jaw Prison reportedly had their cells raided on Tuesday before being threatened and harassed.
Exiled Bahraini human rights defender Sayed Ahmed Alwadaei shared a message he received from one of the inmates’ families, which said that the prisoners were removed from their cells, handcuffed and forced to stand still for long hours.
They were also told that ‘these were their last days’ and that they would soon be executed. Finally, the guards confiscated the prisoners’ personal items, including clothes and books. Allegations of abuse inside Jaw are nothing new.
Detainees claim that they are subjected to systematic torture while being denied access to health care and even drinking water.
There are no official figures about the number of death row inmates at Jaw, but the UK-based NGO Reprieve reported in September that 21 Bahrainis were sentenced to death.
