AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Bahraini activist Hassan Abd Al-Nabi started a hunger strike outside the Thai consulate in Melbourne over the case of refugee footballer Hakeem Al Araibi.
Al-Nabi is demanding that Thai authorities allow Al Araibi to return to Australia instead of deporting him back to his home country where he faces persecution and torture.
Al Araibi, an Australian-based refugee, was detained at Manama’s request last week after entering Thailand for a holiday with his wife.
He was officially placed under arrest by a Bangkok on Friday for a court to rule on his extradition to Bahrain.
The 25-year-old is wanted in Bahrain where he was sentenced to 10 years in prison in absentia over what he says are fabricated charges.
