AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Amnesty International Bahrain described the case of Bahraini detainee Ahmed Mirza as “one of the worst cases of medical negligence” in the Gulf kingdom.
The rights group made the claim on their Twitter page on Tuesday after activists had expressed growing fears over the prisoner’s wellbeing.
Mirza, who was already deprived of receiving family visits for over a year, has reportedly had no contact with the outside world for days.
The 33-year old, detained in Bahrain’s Jaw Prison, is a sickle cell patient and requires a surgical procedure for the removal of his gallbladder.
However, numerous reports by Bahraini activists allege that the authorities at Jaw have repeatedly denied him access to proper health care.
He was sentenced to ten years in prison after being found guilty of involvement in a bombing that occurred while he was out of the country.
Manama’s critics assert that his real crime is being the half-brother of Bahrain’s jailed opposition leader Sheikh Ali Salman.
