AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Authorities at Bahrain’s Jaw Prison are being accused of continuing to deny detainees at the facility the freedom to worship, most recently on the occasion of Prophet Muhammad’s birthday.
Prisoners are alleging that those who refused to abide by orders not to observe the occasion on November 21 were subjected to punitive measures, including being denied phone calls and access to the prison courtyard.
The vast majority of Bahrain’s prison population is Shiite Muslim.
Countless detainees have been denied their right to practice their religion freely in recent years and many are routinely obstructed from marking Shiite religious occasions.
