Jailed Bahraini activist starts hunger strike over court verdicts

Jailed Bahraini political activist Mohammed al-Singace declared the start of a hunger strike on Tuesday in protest over the “arbitrary verdicts” issued against him.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Jailed Bahraini political activist Mohammed al-Singace declared the start of a hunger strike on Tuesday in protest over the “arbitrary verdicts” issued against him.

According to prominent rights campaigner Ebtisam Al-Saegh, the 53-year-old Al-Singace is merely “demanding justice”.

Al-Singace, who worked to bring attention to Manama’s mishandling of poverty and inflation, was arrested at his home on the morning of May 15, 2012 and later sentenced to a lengthy prison term.

He is also the brother of well-known dissident Dr. Abduljalil al-Singace, who is currently serving a life sentence for his role in Bahrain’s 2011 uprising.
