AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The family of Bahraini detainee Osama Al-Saghir is alleging that their loved one was ‘severely beaten’ by a police officer that escorted him to his latest court hearing.
The head of the monitoring and documentation department at the Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR), Enas Oun, reported the family’s claims in a Twitter post on Monday.
According to Oun, the family also ‘complained of procrastination’ on the part of authorities at the Dry Dock Detention Center in granting Al-Saghir access to desperately needed medical care.
The young prisoner is said to be in severe pain as a result of injuries sustained by birdshot pellets, which are still lodged in his body.
He was shot during his arrest last May when Manama’s security forces attacked a peaceful sit-in outside the home of Bahrain’s highest religious authority Sheikh Isa Qassim.
Five people were killed and hundreds detained in the ensuing violence.
Al-Saghir was eventually slapped with a 46-year prison sentence.
