AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): In its latest report examining Manama’s clampdown against this year’s Ashura commemorations, the Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR) accuses the regime of carrying out numerous violations.
According to the rights group’s findings, Bahraini authorities interrogated more than 30 Shiite religious figures and administrators.
13 of those were remanded in custody on charges that the BCHR describes as lacking in evidence.
The report also documents the forcible removal of Ashura displays by security forces as well as attacks on Ashura marches with tear gas and shotgun pellets.
Recommendations by the BCHR include calls on Manama to release all those “arrested for exercising their legitimate right to freedom of religion” and for those behind the latest violations to be held accountable.
