At airport returning from UNGA;

Pres. Rouhani: World leaders laughed at Trump

Speaking at Mehrabad Airport on Thursday upon arrival from New York, President Rouhani said, “Attending the United Nations General Assembly was an opportunity to express Iran’s stances and also meet with world leaders and discuss bilateral relations with them”.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Speaking at Mehrabad Airport on Thursday upon arrival from New York, President Rouhani said, “Attending the United Nations General Assembly was an opportunity to express Iran’s stances and also meet with world leaders and discuss bilateral relations with them”.

Stating the today, the United States is experiencing an unprecedented, historic isolation in the world, President Rouhani said, “This three-day visit was primarily aimed at attending UNGA and express Iran’s views and stances in an international gathering”.

“Two speeches were delivered at the United Nations, one in the General Assembly and one in Nelson Mandela Peace Summit. We also had meetings with major American media executives, elites, statesmen and leaders of Islamic communities in the visit,” said Rouhani.

He also added, “We also had two exclusive interviews and a press conference, as well as 17 meetings with heads of state and heads of international organisations”.

“The most important thing that I think was clear in this year’s General Assembly was Iran’s righteousness and America’s bullying. Issues like the United States’ approach towards ICC, Human Rights Council, UNESCO, and agreements with other countries, including their unilateral withdrawal from the JCPOA were all discussed,” said Rouhani.

The President also went on to say, “I think that Americans did not take anything home out of this year’s General Assembly, and even when Mr Trump was delivering his speech, the entire hall burst into laughter”.

He continued, “The other issue that was brought up a couple of weeks before the UNGA was the special session in the Security Council that the United States was after holding, which Trump said it was on Iran”.

“First of all, they couldn’t put the issue of Iran as the main topic, and eventually the session was held on disarmament and WMDs, and secondly, the session turned into one in which the overwhelming majority backed the JCPOA and Trump was left alone,” continued Rouhani.

“Along with the UNGA, the 4+1 summit was held and the ministers of the five countries had good discussions, ending the summit with a good, firm statement. In the statement, they expressed their support of the nuclear deal and a mechanism for relations with Iran, on which Ms Mogherini officially announced that it would be operationalized before November,” he continued.

Dr Rouhani also said, “In meetings with heads of state, we discussed different bilateral and regional issues, as well as the nuclear deal and business relations and all countries stated that they would not pay attention to US sanctions”.

“We also had a meeting with UN Secretary General and he hailed Iran and said that they would firmly support the JCPOA. He also expressed satisfaction over Iran’s regional activities and the cooperation on Yemen and Syria,” Rouhani continued.

He also said, “This visit had another achievement and that was returning a historical monument dating back to 2500 years ago, which was in the United States”.
