AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Two Bahraini Shiite clerics were detained on Sunday after being interrogated by police for over nine hours.
Sheikh Hani al-Banna and Sheikh Yassin al-Jamri were reportedly transferred to the Budaiya Police Station and are expected to appear before Bahrain’s Public Prosecution on Monday.
Throughout the course of last week, at least six Shiite clerics were summoned for questioning over the content of their religious sermons in the lead up to the annual Ashura commemorations.
Manama’s security forces routinely step-up their harassment of Shiite religious figures during Ashura, which honors the martyrdom of Prophet Muhammad’s grandson, Imam Hussein (AS).
