AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Bahraini prisoners of conscience Hajar Mansoor Hassan, Medina Ali and Najah Ahmed Yousif are reportedly being denied the right to observe Ashura commemorations.
Hassan’s son-in-law and exiled Bahraini human rights defender Sayed Ahmed Alwadaei made the revelations on Saturday, pointing the finger of blame at the head of the Isa Town Detention Centre Maryam Albardoli.
In the past, Alwadaei has accused Albardoli of subjecting Hassan to acts of “retribution”.
Last month, Hassan alleged that prison authorities tore up clothes she received as a gift for the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha.
Bahraini detainees are routinely denied their right to practice their religion and are obstructed from marking Shiite occasions.
Although Ashura is marked by all Muslims, it is a major part of the religious calendar for Shiite communities for whom it is a solemn occasion to mourn the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) in 680 AD at Karbala.
