Bahrain female detainee was forbidden from celebrating Eid Al-Adha

Bahraini rights campaigners reported on Tuesday that Hajar Mansoor Hassan continues to be subjected to harassment and ill-treatment in detention.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Bahraini rights campaigners reported on Tuesday that Hajar Mansoor Hassan continues to be subjected to harassment and ill-treatment in detention.

Hassan revealed this week that authorities at the Isa Town Women’s Detention Centre tore up cloths she received as a gift for the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha.

“I was forbidden from celebrating it [Eid al-Adha] in the simplest form,” she was quoted as saying by activists.

Hassan, the mother-in-law of exiled Bahraini human rights defender Sayed Ahmed Alwadaei, was sentenced to three years in prison for allegedly planting “fake bombs”.

Rights groups maintain that the sentence is retaliation for Alwadaei’s outspoken criticism of Manama’s policies.

Hassan has alleged continuous abuses during her time in detention, which she also blames for her deteriorating health.
