AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Manama’s security forces have detained a 16-year-old as he touched down at the Bahrain International Airport on Tuesday evening.
According to activists, Ali Husain Al-Mansi was returning from a religious pilgrimage in Iran when he was taken into custody.
His family was reportedly ‘shocked’ as the teenager was hauled away to an unknown location. The reasons for his arrest are still unknown.
The number of Bahraini minors detained without proper cause or an arrest warrant has risen substantially since last October.
Countless rights groups, including Human Rights Watch (HRW), blasted Manama in the past for “routinely” detaining children and subjecting them to “ill-treatment that may rise to the level of torture.”
