Rights activists continue to call on Manama to free Dr Abduljalil Al-Singace

Rights campaigners are continuing to call on Manama to free Bahraini human rights defender Dr Abduljalil Al-Singace, who was sentenced to life in prion for his role in Bahrain’s 2011 pro-democracy protests.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Rights campaigners are continuing to call on Manama to free Bahraini human rights defender Dr Abduljalil Al-Singace, who was sentenced to life in prion for his role in Bahrain’s 2011 pro-democracy protests.

The calls mark eight years since Al-Singace’s arrest in August 2011, which was followed by torture and six months in detention.

The activist was detained as he touched down in Manama after returning from a conference at the British House of Lords, which focused on the state of human rights in Bahrain.

He was released in February 2011 during the height of the anti-regime protests but was rearrested just a few short weeks later.

Throughout his time in detention, Al-Singace who is disabled and suffers from a series of long-term health problems, continues to be denied access to proper health care.

The ill-treatment has reportedly led to a further deterioration in his health.
