AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): President described Tehran-Astana relations strategic, close and developing and said: “The ample potentials of the two countries in different fields can complement each other and we should take more advantage of them to serve the interests of the two nations and the peoples of the region”.
Speaking with President Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan on Sunday after the Fifth Caspian Sea Littoral States Summit in Kazakhstan, Dr Hassan Rouhani said: “Tehran attaches great weight to its relations with Astana, because these close historic relations stem from common cultural features between the two nations”
Tehran and Astana support each other in regional and international matters, he said, referring to Astana’s active role in regional developments, especially Syrian peace talks, saying: “Kazakhstan has always been alongside the Iranian nation in international issues, including the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and we are determined to further deepen these ties”.
He also went on to state that the two countries have ample opportunities for joint ventures and provide each other with services, saying: “The potentials of Iran and Kazakhstan in different fields, especially in transit can complement each other in a way that Kazakhstan can be linked to southern waters and Iran can be linked to China through Kazakhstan”.
On banking relations and the need to develop them, Dr Rouhani said: “Tehran and Astana can take advantage of their national currencies and take effective steps in for development of bilateral relations”.
At the same meeting, President Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan said: “Business relations between the two countries have had considerable increase in the recent years and we are determined to continue the same path”.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran is a friendly country and a regional partner to Kazakhstan and we are always seeking ways to develop our relations with Tehran,” he added.
He also referred to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and said: “Kazakhstan supports JCPOA’s continuation and its full implementation and we are determined to increase our relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran in different fields”.
