AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The Secretary General of Bahrain’s Unitary National Democratic Assemblage Hassan Marzooq was released on Friday after spending ten days in detention.
He was taken into custody at the Manama airport on July 31 as he returned from a conference in the Lebanese capital Beirut.
Rights campaigners had accused the authorities in the kingdom of arbitrarily holding the opposition figure.
In recent months, Marzooq faced repeated harassment by Manama’s security apparatus.
His group’s former Secretary General Fadhel Abbas Mahdi Mohamed was jailed in 2015 for “spreading false information” after his party accused a Saudi-led coalition of violating international law in Yemen.
