AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): In a show of solidarity with Bahrain’s prisoners of conscience, Diraz residents took to the streets on Friday, condemning the authorities in the Gulf kingdom for continuing to deny detainees access to health care.
The protest was staged just outside Diraz’s Imam Al-Sadiq Mosque where a ban on Shiite Friday prayers remains in place.
Local worshipers also demanded the lifting of that ban, which Manama’s security forces are continuing to enforce despite the purported lifting of the two-year long ‘siege’ on the village.
Diraz was subjected to an unprecedented lockdown starting in the summer of 2016 when Bahrain’s highest religious authority, Sheikh Isa Qassim, was stripped of his citizenship and confined to his home there.
