AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The son of jailed Bahraini opposition leader Hassan Mushaima announced that he would not be ending his hunger strike despite the fact that his father received some of his medication on Tuesday.
Ali Mushaima has been on hunger strike since August 1 over his father’s ill-treatment in detention.
He is camped outside the Bahraini Embassy in London and is demanding that the Kingdom’s prison authorities grant the 70-year-old Mushaima access to proper health care.
In a Twitter post on Tuesday, Ali reported that his father had been transferred to hospital but only “received 8 [out of] 19 of his medicines”.
“[He] was not given vital diabetes medication, despite it being available and promised to him,” Ali added. “A few medicines are not enough to resolve my father’s condition. He is entitled to full medical treatment, alongside family visitations and the return of his books and materials.”
Hassan Mushaima was sentenced to life in prison in 2011 for his role in Bahrain’s pro-democracy protests that same year.
He is a cancer survivor and reportedly suffers from a number of illnesses including erratic blood pressure, diabetes, urinary-tract irritation and gout.
