Amnesty urges Manama to grant Hassan Mushaima access to adequate healthcare

Amnesty International is urging Manama to grant Bahraini prisoner of conscience Hassan Mushaima “access to adequate healthcare”.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Amnesty International is urging Manama to grant Bahraini prisoner of conscience Hassan Mushaima “access to adequate healthcare”.

In a tweet posted on Thursday, the rights group accused Bahraini prison authorities of denying Mushaima medical treatment while refusing to transfer the ailing detainee to the hospital unshackled.

The authorities in the kingdom recently introduced restrictive measures, which demand that political prisoners are fully shackled if they wish to receive medication or be taken to doctor’s appointments.

Amnesty added that Mushaima’s access to healthcare should be “unhindered by unnecessary and degrading prison practices.”

The 70-year-old detainee is a cancer survivor and suffers from multiple health conditions including diabetes.

He is serving a life sentence for his role in Bahrain’s popular uprising in 2011.
