AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The son of jailed Bahraini opposition figure Hassan Mushaima declared the start of an open-ended hunger strike on Wednesday in protest over his father’s treatment in detention.
The London-based activist Ali Mushaima is vowing to camp out in front of the Bahraini Embassy in the UK until his father is granted “immediate access to medical care” and is permitted family visits.
British police have since arrived at the embassy in what looks like an apparent attempt to remove Ali.
The 70-year-old prisoner of conscience is a cancer survivor and suffers from multiple health conditions including diabetes.
But the authorities at Bahrain’s Jaw Prison are allegedly withholding his medication and preventing him from receiving regular check-ups.
Mushaima served as the secretary-general of Bahrain’s opposition Haq Movement before being sentenced to life in prison over his role in the country’s 2011 uprising.
