Indonesia bans ISIS-linked group

The South Jakarta District Court has declared ISIS-affiliated group Jamaah Ansharut Daulah, or JAD, a forbidden organization over its involvement in high-profile terrorist attacks in Indonesia.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The South Jakarta District Court has declared ISIS-affiliated group Jamaah Ansharut Daulah, or JAD, a forbidden organization over its involvement in high-profile terrorist attacks in Indonesia.

"[We] declare JAD and other organizations affiliated with ISIS, Daesh, ISIL or IS forbidden organizations in Indonesia," Judge Aris Bawono said on Tuesday (31/07), as quoted by state-run news agency Antara.

The group was found guilty of having carried out acts of terror and ordered to pay a Rp 5 million ($347) fine.

Prosecutors indicted JAD on July 24 for its role in several terrorist attacks.

The group was represented by Zainal Anshori, head of JAD's East Java chapter, who is considered the group's second-in-command after Aman Abdurrahman.

Aman is currently on death row after his conviction on terrorism charges in June.

Three families, some with small children, carried out a series of suicide bombings in Surabaya, East Java, in May, killing more than 30 people. They were members of JAD.

Zainal said the group would not appeal the ruling.
