(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Bahrainis poured onto the streets on Friday night in a show of solidarity with the country’s highest religious authority Sheikh Isa Qassim, who is currently receiving medical treatment in the UK.
The peaceful marches were reported in a number of villages including Karbabad, Sanabis, Abu Saiba, and Shakhura.
Earlier in the day, similar rallies were also held in Sheikh Qassim’s hometown of Diraz where he spent more than a year living under house arrest.
Sheikh Qassim departed Bahrain earlier this month as a result of his deteriorating health that rights campaigners blame on a prolonged deprivation of medical care.
The cleric, who is a central figure in Bahrain’s popular uprising, had been confined to Diraz since June 2016 when he was arbitrarily stripped of his citizenship.
