(AhlulBayt News Agency) - The Washington-based American for Democracy and Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB) will hold a vigil on Thursday against Manama’s “continued persecution” of Shiite religious figures, activists and journalists.
The gathering is being organized in front of the Bahraini embassy in Washington, D.C.
The rights group will also be protesting the general deterioration of the human rights situation in Bahrain and throwing the spotlight on the plight of prisoners of conscience, including that of opposition leaders Sheikh Ali Salman and Hassan Mushaima.
Estimates put the number of Bahrainis jailed for their political views in recent years in the thousands.
Most are subjected to torture, harassment and deprived of their most basic human rights. Conditions behind bars are further exacerbated by negligence and the absence of medical care.
