(AhlulBayt News Agency) - ‘Informed sources’ cited by Bahraini activists revealed that the water supply to Bahrain’s Dry Dock Detention Center has been cut-off for days.
The news is particularly disturbing given the time of year when summer temperatures in Bahrain tend to reach 48°C. The combination of heat and high humidity makes water an absolutely essential recourse.
The exact reasons for such measures remain unclear. But the facility is notorious for the ill-treatment of the prison population.
Activists are also reporting that detainees are subjected to intrusive searches, denied the freedom to worship and housed in overcrowded cells.
Meanwhile, prisoners of conscience are reportedly being prevented from contacting their families and are denied access to the prison courtyard.
Last year, inmates described conditions at the facility as ‘intolerable’ and ‘tragic’.
