(AhlulBayt News Agency) -  13 new cathedral mosques were opened in the first half of 2018 in Uzbekistan.

These figures were voiced by the chairman of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan, mufti Usmankhon Alimov in his speech at the international forum "Common spiritual values of fraternal peoples" held in Kazakhstan.

"Only in the Surkhandarya region 7 new mosques have started their activity," Mufti Usmankhon Alimov said.

About 600 representatives of the clergy of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan took part in the international forum. They exchanged experience, discussed issues of raising the professionalism and knowledge of mosques workers, improving their image and responsibility, and their role in the modern society, Podrobno.uz reports.

According to the organizers, the meeting will strengthen the spiritual cooperation between the two fraternal countries, as a result of which it is planned to jointly organize a pilgrimage to holy places and to conduct joint researches.

Also along the major routes of Uzbekistan it is planned to open mini-mosques for the spiritual needs of tourists and all those who are on the road. They can simultaneously accommodate up to 20-30 people.

At the same time, mini mosques will not be intended for Friday's sermons and other solemn meetings, but only for prayer needs of the people who are on the road.
