(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Bahrain’s February 14 Youth Coalition, a major opposition group, called on the people of the country to massively take part in activities marking the anniversary of the bloodshed in Diraz, near Manama.
On May 23, 2017, Bahraini regime forces raided Diraz, which has been under a military siege for a long time, and stormed into the home of Sheikh Isa Qassim, the spiritual leader of Bahraini Shia majority.
The regime forces killed a number of people, wounded dozens and arrested over 280 people during the crackdown on Diraz, which took place shortly after a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
One year on, the February 14 Youth Coalition in a statement urged people to participate in the activities marking the anniversary of the deadly attack.
It said the activities include demonstrations on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Home to the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet, Bahrain has carried out a crackdown on opposition political activity and dissent since an uprising began in on February 14, 2011, against the ruling Al Khalifa regime by demonstrators from the Shia Muslim majority.
