(AhlulBayt News Agency) - In a telephone conversation on Tuesday, Bahrain’s jailed opposition leader Sheikh Ali Salman revealed that the authorities at the kingdom’s Jaw Prison are continuing to harass political detainees.
According to Sheikh Salman, 12 new inmates were brought to the already overcrowded cellblock that houses leading opposition figures, rights activists, and Shiite clerics jailed by Manama over their role in the country’s popular uprising. The entire block consists of only three cells.
Earlier, the Jaw administration banned a list of books at the facility, which include widely circulated Shiite religious texts and other educational materials.
Other restrictions include denying political prisoners access to desperately needed medical care, confiscating their belongings, and even depriving them of drinking water.
