(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Authorities in Bahrain’s Jaw Prison have drawn up a list of books that are now banned at the facility.
The list includes a number of widely circulated Shiite religious texts and other educational materials.
The restrictions come amid deteriorating living conditions in Jaw especially with respect to the treatment of political detainees, who routinely have their books and other belongings confiscated.
Many are also punished for observing Shiite religious occasions while human rights defenders and opposition figures are denied access to healthcare.
Last September, over 1,000 Bahraini prisoners launched a hunger strike in protest of the living conditions and abuses in detention.
