(AhlulBayt News Agency) - The Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society paid tribute to Bahrain’s workforces on the occasion of International Workers’ Day or May Day.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the opposition group noted that 4400 Bahrainis have lost their jobs in recent years over their political views and sectarian affiliation.
Al-Wefaq warned that such cases are on the rise, unveiling a “policy of starvation and impoverishment against citizens because of their political opinions.”
Of the 4400, some have been able to return to work in lower paying jobs while others remain unemployed.
Al-Wefaq also paid tribute to the Bahraini workers who lost their lives while taking part in the country’s popular uprising, which started in 2011, as well as those who have been permanently disabled by torture throughout the long years of repression.
That repression extends to May Day rallies, which are banned in Bahrain.
